Hand-sewn into hand-painted corrugated cardboard covers.

Text in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Originally the text of a letter James Joyce wrote to his grandson Stephen on August 10, 1936, this children’s story tells of how the Devil builds a bridge for the citizens of the town of Beaugency in exchange for the soul of the first to cross it. The crafty mayor uses a cat to try and trick the Devil. In this translation, the French/English dialogues are transposed to Spanish and Portuguese and, rather than in the Loire Valley in France, the story is set in the Brazilian waterfall region of Foz do Iguaçu.
